Hump Day Nudge: Indebted to kindness of the debt collector

Quote by Carolyn Bergen on poster by Bergen and Associates that states: "It is not so much our friends

I just love it when nice guys finish first.

When kindness wins.  When thoughtfulness and empowerment of another builds a person up.  When someone could be mean and demanding to get results…and might even feel entitled to be rude and demanding…but chooses love.

This story makes me smile…what happens when you put a debt collector with a heart of compassion on the phone with someone who owes more than what they can pay?

Empathy.

Understanding.

And the space to develop a plan that works for everyone.

And the strategy that develops out of that plan.

And DOUBLE the results of the more typical strong-arm type of debt collecting.

We are in this together.  Humanity plays on the same team…and sometimes we forget that and start acting like we are on opposing sides when we don’t have to be.  Cooperation works.  Kindness and compassion matter…and when people are given a hand up, everybody wins.

I like that.

We get stuck in ruts, and think that we need to do things in certain ways.  And that rude and rough and demanding, and sticking up for your rights is the way to go…mebbe consider helping someone today when you normally might choose otherwise?
