Gail Shaver has been a part of the Bergen and Associates Counselling group for coming onto two years.
Gail is great. She has a passion for the work. She went back to school as a mature student to become a therapist because she wanted to invest her life into working with people this way. She studied hard for years not because she had to, but because she wanted to.
In January, we have this thing around our office called, “January Joy”. In the coldest, darkest month, we “pump up each other’s tires” a bit by each doing cute and fun things anonymously for one person.Gail is the person who comes in on a weekend because her secret partner for our Melanie, who is always at her desk…and she makes a trip in on the weekend to surprise her with sweetness Monday mornings.
Gail is the person who subtly slips a card to someone whose lost a loved one.
Gail is the person who follows through, asks questions, stays on top of things…because she knows that when she does, it creates a good space for others. She laughs long and brightly at jokes. She’s fun.
Gail has a gentleness about her. She’s no softie, but she carefully recognizes the subtle fragility that is inherent in most people and is careful. But she doesn’t run from the tough topics, and courageously names what is going on in a way that allows discussion and forward movement.
Gail is a delightfully easy to work with. She asks questions to know the score. She welcomes direct questions back, so we both know all the time where each other stands when it comes to the arrangements of working together.
Gail’s particular interests are working with couples who long to regain that special connection with each other, and with those who have suffered significant loss and are finding themselves flailing about, unsure about life.
We thought you might want to get to know her better yourself. Take a look:
