Hump Day Nudge: Nature’s beauty

It’s Tuesday night.  Hump Day is tomorrow.

Yesterday was a stressful, conflicted, yammering, kind of day around our house, with seemingly everyone bagging on each other, not enough time, and the pressures of the world crowding in around us…the tones were tense, and it required effort to not go off on each other.  We pulled off preventing total ugliness…but we weren’t feeling the love.

So…today we needed to regroup.  I stopped by the store today and picked up a cooked chicken to make an easy supper.  We chopped and diced and brought our chicken topped salads out to the backyard, lit a fire in the fire pit, and enjoyed the sparks and smoke, the breeze and the balm, the dancing flames and the din of background traffic.  The trees were green, the birds were chirping, and we just took some time to visit for a while after our supper, and enjoy the fire, the air, and the company.

Nature restores.

We laughed and joked, exchanged stories of the day, nattered about how best to maintain the fire in ways that generated good will and connection…we felt the love.
The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature. Anne Frank

So, now it is dusk on Tuesday night, I’ve gone back out and put another log on the fire.  I sit (with wifi signal extending to the back yard) thinking about how rare we city folks get a chance to enjoy the restorative power of nature.

Whether you’re at your desk at work, at the kitchen counter at home, or on your phone standing in line somewhere…take 2 minutes and immerse yourself in nature’s beauty…revel in its mystery…
