“The drummer boy” has been my favourite Christmas song every since I was a little girl. I grew up with the “Bony M” version, but the Pentatonix is my current fave version (and the new favourite of millions of others, I think, too, judging by the over 19 million views in three weeks or so)
After just having spent a week with folks exploring the material of The Daring Way™ , I think I figured out why I love it so much all these years.
I love how the song preaches “enough”. The little drummer boy may not have anything material as a gift…but he’s got himself and that is enough.
He plays his drum with Mary’s blessing…and his music has the Christ-baby smiling. The animals join in. It creates a time of joy when creatures are together spending time with one another.
There are no riches offered…but the guy gives what’s he’s got…and that is valued and appreciated. It. is. enough.
May you find this holiday season a time of letting who you are be enough. Live fully and completely in the moment with those around you. Be authentic to who you are, which may mean acknowledging limitations and saying “no” to one more party, or decide to alternate family events. Buy gifts that are genuinely in your price range without apology or pressure to extend yourself beyond what you can afford.
Be enough. You are enough. You–yourself–are a gift to those who love you. Just by hanging out with you this season, your loved ones will be blessed. Know that, k?
(A lot of us might know we are enough, but have trouble feeling enough. Check back to our website over the coming months for 3 day weekend intensive workshops for individuals, couples, care providers and perfectionists using The Daring Way ™. We’d love to work together with you to create an entire enough movement!)
