Manitoba Marathon time is here. The annual Father’s Day tradition is a couple of days away, and we here at Bergen & Associates Counselling are PUMPED!!
Roshonna Plett has organized a bunch of us into a relay team. Starting off will be Michael Quiring, who, after handing off the timing belt will go on to run the half (his first). He will be following by Kevin Beauchamp (who proudly proclaims he is the first in his family to ever enter a Manitoba Marathon event…he is creating history in his family). Then will be Sabrina Friesen, followed by myself…and Roshonna will be bringing our team to the finish line.
Our crew has T-shirts with the company logo on the front…and the confidence in ourselves to proclaim…”Growing, growing…gone!” We may not be fast, but we’re determined and we have entered.
None of us run competitively…a couple have picked up running specifically for this event. We are supportive of each other to try…with the time being unimportant. One has an injury that may mean only walking is possible…but she persists, excited to participate.
We are wearing our shirts today at the office to celebrate the upcoming event:
We have registered and we have therefore succeeded.
- There’s something about being part of something bigger than oneself that makes for a certain sort of magic.
- There’s something about making a choice to sign up that is a victory in itself.
- There’s something about going out of one’s comfort zone that is exhilirating and just plain fun…and hey, when there are as many volunteers and cheerleaders as there on the course, it gives all runners opportunity to feel like a celebrity. (Thank-you Manitoba Marathon volunteers, and all of you who come out with your morning coffee and lawnchair and puppy to sit at the end of your driveway to cheer us on…muchly appreciated!)
We have already won. And we have T shirts to prove it…and celebrate that.
