Nadia is Married!!
Melanie, Roshonna and I motored on south past Winkler yesterday to celebrate with Nadia and Tom.
Tom and Nadia were married just over two weeks ago in her childhood home in Ontario. Tom’s family, and many of their friends (including us!) are in Manitoba….so they had a Manitoba party with family and friends. They put on their wedding duds and showed a video montage of the wedding day as part of the afternoon…almost like being there.
Back when I was a kid, my tradition had simple (but totally fresh and yummy) buns, cold cuts, squares of cheese, butter and jam…with pickles and a salad…for weddings. It was like “going home” to my childhood to have that familiar, simply delicious supper on a Sunday.
Michael Quiring was also there…didn’t get any snaps of him as he was good friends with the host of the evening…a fellow classmate from where he and Nadia went to school.
I’ve known Nadia now for the two years she has worked with us. We know:
- all about her attention to detail
- Her incredible competence with administrative matters
- Her ability to stay calm, focused and able to handle any situation
- Her infectious giggle when we chat about this and that
- Her responsiveness to any sort of feedback she is given
- Her passion to effectively engage with people as they come to her to work on life’s connections
…but it is all in the context of the work setting.
We learned so much more about Nadia yesterday…
- about her joy in squeezing life as a child (which I gathered involved coming home at the end of each day covered in the dirt and mud of the day),
- about the love her parents have for her and she for them,
- about the antics of she engaged in with her siblings as children.
We got to know a little more about Tom (or “Thomas” as his parents call him) as his parents proudly spoke of him. They are delighted with their new daughter-in-law, too! They also reflected on the happiness of the day, noting how a few years ago the possibility of the joy of yesterday seemed impossible as they mourned the death of their son (and Tom’s brother)…family pictures during the slide show went starkly from five to four as we watched Tom get older.
Melanie and Roshonna and I enjoyed seeing the early stages of crop growth, the rainbows on the horizon, and the easy relaxed company of our friendship in the car as we drove out and back. Lots of laughter and good conversation…ahhhh.
It was so good to spend the day with colleagues who are also such good friends, celebrating a life highlight of Nadia with her, as she is clearly so thrilled to be married to Tom. We do so much work with engaged couples, newlyweds, and those married for a while…so to celebrate the marriage of one of our own…well, it just tickles me down to my toes.
Nadia is back at work this week…with the wedding and Manitoba celebration behind her and life as a married couple ahead. We’re excited that she has Tom in her life and thrilled that she’s back working with her clients this week!
