M.A. in Counselling
My name is Wai-Han (慧娴), Wai: wisdom; Han: elegance. Being born and raised in a shame-based culture, from a young age I was given the opposite message - that I do not measure up to my name. And so, I experienced the power of words―that they can speak life or death, in my case self-rejection. Through my journey towards healing, spoken words brought liberating life to me. As a result, I am passionate about speaking life into the lives of others, to see individuals finding more internal freedom, - feeling empowered and in control of their experiences - while struggling with depression, anxiety, and challenging interpersonal relationships.
Wai-Han values the courage it takes to reach out. She works with individuals of all ages, including teens and adults. Was-Han has worked with college and school-age students and families by providing compassionate care to diverse, vulnerable populations and is well-versed in helping clients overcome many issues, including stress, anxiety, and challenges of various kinds.
Wai-Han has a heart for social justice and anti-human trafficking work. She is grateful to have developed intercultural experiences in various places, including Romania, Scotland, Australia, Hong Kong, Macau, China, the Philippines, Cambodia, Thailand, and Nepal. She utilizes an integrative approach to narrative therapy through modalities including (but not limited to) CBT, DBT, solution-focused, and trauma theory. Wai-Han is passionate about languages and cultures. Besides British and Canadian English, she is proficient in Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese. Wai-Han looks forward to journeying with you.
