B.Sc. (Biochemistry), M.A. Marriage and Family Therapy
Simeon is an associate member of the Canadian Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (CAMFT), has a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy, and has over 400 hours of clinical experience. As part of his Masters program, Simeon has taken courses in Grief and Trauma Counselling, Interpersonal Trauma Counselling, Emotionally Focused Therapy.
Simeon has been primarily trained in Narrative Therapy (framing our problems and healing in the context of the stories we live out) and Emotionally Focused Therapy (identifying the emotions behind our behaviours and finding ways to be vulnerable in the context of relationships), however, his interest in Internal Family Systems (understanding the competing parts of our minds and why they do what they do) has led him to incorporate elements of it in his work.
While Simeon is still relatively new to counselling and is not specialized in any one area, he has experience working with families, couples, and youth, as well as clients with experiences of anxiety, depression, sexual abuse, PTSD, ADHD, and BPD.
Simeon is a firm believer in client-led therapy, trusting that the client is the expert on their own life and that his role is to help clients meet their goals through curiosity and the creation of a safe space. Simeon works with his clients to try to understand the motivations behind their thoughts, feelings, and actions and invites a posture of empathy and compassion towards these thoughts, feelings, and actions.
Simeon’s goal for all his clients is that they would learn to truly love themselves and that this love would motivate them to chase the life they want to lead. Simeon works hard to honor and create space for experiences of frustration, worry, grief, and excitement and tries to listen to what these experiences can teach us about our hopes, values and identity.
