Conexus Counselling Intern

Cathy is currently a student at Providence Theological Seminary, completing her master’s degree in counselling. She is grateful for the opportunity to complete her practicum at Conexus Counselling, where she continues to grow in her understanding of what it means to walk alongside people through the complexities of life.

Much of Cathy’s adult life has been spent working in various ministry settings, connecting with people across a wide range of ages, cultures, and life circumstances. These experiences helped her discover a deep passion for people and for the stories they carry, eventually leading her to pursue counselling.

One of Cathy’s favourite quotes comes from Mary Pipher: “Life is so terrible and beautiful at the same time. Do I have the capacity to hold it all in my heart?” As a two-time breast cancer survivor, Cathy has experienced firsthand the tension of holding both the hard and beautiful things in life. She knows what it means to let go of the life you thought you would have, grieve what has been lost, and learn to move forward with hope and purpose. These experiences have deepened her belief in the power of simply being with someone, listening well, and creating space for their story to be heard without judgment.

Cathy is drawn to a people-centred approach to counselling and is continually learning how different theories and perspectives can help her better understand and support each person she meets. She believes that healing does not happen in isolation and values the importance of safe, meaningful relationships and community. She hopes to offer a space where people can feel seen, heard, and accepted as they navigate both the difficult and beautiful places of life.

When she is not studying or at practicum, Cathy enjoys hiking, paddleboarding, reading, eating ice cream, and spending time with her husband and their two boys.
