Hump Day Nudge: The little friendly gestures matter

A reminder that seemingly small gestures make a big impact. Poster by Bergen and Associates Counseling in Winnipeg

Last week, after I spoke on the radio, I went to Starbucks to chill a bit…a little self care after a task I still find stressful (does that ever go away?).  Ahead of me were a pastor couple from the church I attend…with another couple for a visit. The pastor pulled out his card to pay for the drinks for the four of them, and when the barista asked if there was anything else, his wife said, “Yes-one more drink.” And she turned to me what I was having…and they treated me to a tea.

Made my day.

I was over at a friend’s for lunch on Sunday, the day after she looked after centrepieces for an event at the Art Gallery. She sent me home with a couple of vases of flowers to put in the office this week.

Made that day.

I’ve been driving without a radio or clock in my car for a month or more-the byproduct of getting a dead battery switched out for a new one.  One of the Junior Tribe Members called the vehicle manufacturer to find the magic 6 digit code to reactivate the radio…and texted it to me yesterday.

Made that day, too.

The little kindnesses…the wave, letting someone in line in front of you, the little routines of putting the water on to boil for a co-worker, or calling a friend on her birthday…those little things that certainly take a little thoughtfulness and a little effort…make such a difference.

Bless someone today?
